Exporting a PDF from Pagemaker This document contains instructions on how to export a PDF file from Adobe Pagemaker. Exporting PDF files from Pagemaker requires that you have a version of Acrobat Distiller installed on your computer. A version of Distiller should have installed when you installed Pagemaker. Without Acrobat Distiller, you will not be able to produce a PDF file from Pagemaker. Step 1 - Open the Pagemaker document you wish to create a PDF from. Once the file is fully prepared and samples have been printed, select the File menu and open the Export tab. You will see two selections in the Export tab, HTML and Adobe PDF. Select Adobe PDF and a window will open. Step 2 - In the Export Adobe PDF window you will see a large number of options. We are only going to worry about a few of them. First, make sure the Distill Now button is checked. The Include downloadable fonts button will also need to be checked. Next you will need to make sure the Override Distiller's Job Options box is checked, and click the Edit button beside it. The Edit button will open a new window that has another series of clickable options that you need to check. First is the ASCII format button -- make sure it is checked. Next is the Embed all fonts button -- make sure it is checked, and uncheck the Subset fonts below button. Next are the Compression settings. A PDF file will compress any placed art in order to decrease the size of the PDF file it produces. Because BCT is printing the artwork in your PDF file, we want to avoid compressing the art whenever possible. First, make sure that Compress text and line art is unchecked. Next, uncheck the Downsample to option in all three bitmap image sections. Now change the Automatic Compression setting in all three bitmap image sections to ZIP/JPEG High. Once all of these settings are in the correct format, select OK. Step 3 - Once you are back in the Export Adobe PDF window you will see a button on the lower right of the window called Save Settings. Clicking this button will save all the changes we just made, so the next time you want to make a PDF file you won't have to make those changes. Next, click Export and Pagemaker will produce a PDF file.
